Luna Luna - Forgotten Fantasy

A spectacular showcase of the world’s first art amusement park—lost since 1987.

I’m so glad that I took a day out of my perpetually full schedule and went to Los Angeles—a five-hour road trip—to see Luna Luna! My daughters treated me for my birthday, so they did all of the driving and planning, and I got to simply enjoy myself. If I had to pick my favorites—and trust me, that’s hard because I really appreciated it all—it would be the Basquiat Ferris Wheel and the Salvador Dali mirrored geo dome.

Luna Luna Los Angeles

Luna Luna originated in 1987 as an art and amusement park in Hamburg, Germany. It was a groundbreaking project that brought together a diverse group of artists, including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Salvador Dali, Keith Haring, and many others, to create a unique and immersive experience. Each artist contributed their vision to various rides and attractions, blending art with the whimsy of a traditional carnival.

The current project to revive Luna Luna began when entrepreneur and art collector, Michael S. Klein, along with his team, sought to restore and modernize the original artworks and attractions. This revival aimed to bring Luna Luna's magic to a new generation and a global audience. They painstakingly restored the original pieces and added new technological elements to enhance the experience while maintaining the original charm and vision of the artists.

It is a must-see as there are plans for it to travel to other US cities. The exhibition is no longer open in Los Angeles.
